Novel-Prewriting

The whole plot and prewriting of my upcoming novel.

Part of one of my works in my Creative Writing elective class. This whole page would be the pre writing thoughts before writing novel. It would include the details of how the plot would flow and unravel out.

In short, we are tasked to write some paragraphs which answers these following questions:

  1. Who is it about?

  2. What did they want?

  3. Why can't they get it?

  4. What did they do about it?

  5. Why doesn't that work?

  6. How does it end?

Now please enjoy all of my pre thoughts and writing of my novel. Thank you!

1. Who is it about?

This story’s mc is simple, very simple. He is just a normal working office man. He goes through the same cycle every day. Walking down the same route and encountering the same thing every day. He works at a booking company who hires writers to write many stories and he acts as the reader/ checker of the story. Although the story is different every day, he already read through every possible method of writing and only see repetition in the story.

2. What did they want?

The only thing the mc wants is something different. His life has been nothing but a loop. This was achieved early on in the story. The mc was given a book, the same thing he got every day, but today was different. It was a story completely different from the others, it was a story that shifts in genre and doesn’t follow the normal flow of storytelling, it was something different. From this point, the thing he wanted changed, he now wants to unravel the ending and the flow of the story. He wants to read the entire story, possibly forever.

3. Why can't they get it?

The author who wrote the book is nowhere to be found, they only sent in the first few chapters of the book to the company. It was an unfinished symphony of the writer. This stopped the mc from knowing more about the story.

4. What did they do about it?

From the conflict stated, the mc tried everything to get the contact information of the author. He started by asking around in his office, he got nothing but an email sent by the author. The mc then contacted the author, no answer. The mc then tried tracking the owner of the email and finding out where the owner is. He tried any possible way he thought of. He finally found out about where the author lived, Iceland. Immediately after that, he booked a flight, rent a car, and goes to the location.

5. Why doesn't that work?

After all of the things he had done, the only thing he found was an empty house next to a lake surrounded by mountains. The only thing inside it was a folded piece of paper. In the paper it gives him a new location, Switzerland. He did the same thing he did with the first location and went to it. In this new location, it was on top of a mountain giving a 360-degree view of the surroundings. Like the 1st location, it was an empty house with a piece of paper inside. Inside this one it gave him another location.

The mc was on the border of giving up, but was still motivated and head to the 3rd location, Hawaii. When he was finally there, he was greeted by many people all giving him flavorful drinks and giving him a show. Finally, when the show ended, the dancers gave him yet another piece of paper.

6. How does it end?

The mc was devastated by this, he went out to the sea side, looked at the amazing sunset and open up the piece of paper. Inside it reads “Wasn’t this a fun book to read? Are you satisfied with adventure you just had? Isn’t this what you wanted, something different? The key to your problem was there all the time, you just had to reach for it.” The story ended here.
